The Freestyle Chess 2025 Champion will emerge from a transformative tour. The tour offers a whopping $750,000 prize fund! Five global tournaments culminate in an exciting finale in South Africa in December.

New Title: Freestyle Chess Champion

In a landmark decision, the Freestyle Chess Players Club announced that the winner of the 2025 Grand Slam Tour will be titled the ‘Freestyle Chess Champion’. This decision was made at a meeting in Weissenhaus, attended by all participants and remote club members.

The players decided to form an independent association with a legal team to safeguard their interests. This move responds to recent tensions with FIDE. FIDE issued controversial demands, restricting players from participating in non-FIDE events.

To counter FIDE’s claims over the use of the word ‘world’, the players agreed to avoid incorporating it into their new title. Event organizer Jan Henric Buettner emphasized that this decision was made by the players, not by Freestyle or FIDE.
