Indian Chess Achievements 2024 – Chess Stars Honored at AICF Felicitation Ceremony
The All India Chess Federation (AICF) hosted a grand event in New Delhi to celebrate the remarkable success of Indian chess grandmasters, marking an extraordinary year for Indian chess achievemnets in 2024.
Teenage sensation D Gukesh created history as the youngest-ever undisputed World Chess Champion, earning a ₹1 crore prize. Koneru Humpy, who secured her second World Rapid Chess Championship, and Vaishali Rameshbabu, who won bronze at the World Blitz Chess Championship, were also felicitated.
Rewards to Indian Chess Achievements 2024
The AICF acknowledged Gukesh’s exceptional journey, awarding ₹50 lakh to his international support team. Humpy received ₹50 lakh, while Vaishali was presented ₹20 lakh for her stellar performance. Humpy has been a consistent performer in Indian chess for over 30 years.

AICF President Nitin Narang highlighted Gukesh’s grit and perseverance, recalling his determination during critical championship matches.
Speaking at the ceremony, Gukesh said, “2024 was a landmark year for Indian chess, with victories in the Candidates Tournament, Olympiads, and World Championships. With continued support, we aim to achieve even greater heights.”
Humpy added, “This grand recognition motivates us to inspire the next generation. Chess in India has immense talent, and with the right push, more young players will shine internationally.”

Looking ahead, Gukesh will participate in the prestigious Tata Steel Chess Tournament in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, from January 17 to February 2, 2025. In the Initial round GM Gukesh is paired with GM Anish Giri.
This felicitation ceremony and the ₹2.2 crore in total rewards underscore the rising prominence of Indian chess on the global stage, setting the tone for another exciting year ahead.
